Do you know what’s at the end of a rainbow? A leprechaun’s pot of gold! Though we’ve never even been remotely close to finding such a treasure, we still love the novelty of it (and will continue chasing the end of rainbows to find it)!
Instead of finding a rainbow today, we discovered a fun idea to make your own coins for St. Patrick’s Day. However, not just any coins, chocolate coins! Keep reading to find out how to make your own tasty treats!

Ingredients & Supplies
- chocolate chips, or block of chocolate (finely chopped)
- double boiler (pot of boiling water, glass bowl)
- silicone mat or silicone cupcake trays
- rolling pin
- plastic wrap
- coin candy mold (optional)
Using a double boiler, carefully melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pot of boiling water. Remove the bowl once the chips have all melted. There are 3 ways to form the coin:
- pour dollops of melted chocolate onto the silicone mat to form little circles, about 5 cm thick, 1 in diameter. When the chocolate is starting to harden, you can cover the dollops with a sheet of plastic wrap and lightly roll over with a rolling pin to flatten
- pour the dollops into the bottom of silicone mini cupcake trays about 4 cm thick
- using the coin candy mold
Let cool completely (you can put them in the fridge really quick) and pop them out of the silicone mats/trays/molds. There you have it, homemade chocolate coins! To make them extra special, wrap each individually with silver, gold, or green foil.
Try different varieties of chocolates such as white or dark, if you prefer. You can even swirl different types of chocolates together for extra special chocolate coins!
